1. Daughter Drink This Water by Jaiya John

Do an online search of this book and you’ll quickly realize you landed on a gem! According to the publisher, “Daughter Drink This Water is a sacred Love song. A timeless affirmation for girls and women in particular, and all people who are nurturing a beautiful life.” Dr. Jaiya John is the founder of Soul Water Rising, a global rehumanizing mission!

2Inward by Yung Pueblo

This book is a collection of poetry, quotes, and prose that explores the movement from self love to unconditional love, the power of letting go, and the wisdom that comes when we truly try to know ourselves. It serves as a reminder to the reader that healing, transformation, and freedom are possible.

3. The Unapologetic Guide to Black Mental Health: Navigate an Unequal System, Learn Tools for Emotional Wellness, and Get the Help you Deserve by Rheeda Walker

This book is a guide for navigating mental health in the Black community. The author, a Black psychologist and mental health professional, not only describes the often ignored mental health crisis within the Black community but, also presents ways to identify (or spot) mental illness, combat the stigma associated with it, and ways to practice emotional wellness.

4. The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman

In this book, Chapman introduces the 5 love languages – acts of service, quality time, receiving gifts, words of affirmation and physical touch- and explains how they play a huge role in our everyday relationships with friends and family!

5. Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire

I would really like to read . As an urban educator, I think it is important for students to feel seen and heard; Freire offers an approach to teaching that reimagines the relationship between an educator and his/her students.
